Local Childeren Get 'That Friday Feeling'

July 2008

Year six pupils from Woodview primary school in Edgbaston celebrated the end of term in style with a party, courtesy of Calthorpe Estates.

The celebration at TGI Fridays was part of a prize won by 11 year old Carla Clarke. Her vision for the future of Edgbaston scooped the top prize in an art competition organised by the Edgbaston based property investor and developer.

Mark Lambert, director of development for Calthorpe Estates, said: “Carla won the prize in March as part of the activity to support the blowdown of the old Edgbaston shopping centre. She decided to hold back having the party and use it as an end of term celebration. It was great to see the whole class enjoying themselves.”

Art teacher at Woodview primary school, Jane McGeown said: “The party was a great way for the children to celebrate the end of term. It was a fantastic prize for Carla to be able to share with her classmates.”

As part of her prize, Carla had the opportunity to ‘push the plunger’ for the demolition of the old Calthorpe House, making way for the new Edgbaston Galleries development. She also won a family ticket to Alton Towers and a canvas print of her winning picture.

“Involving local schools in the ongoing development of the estate is important and a great way to get young minds thinking about their surroundings,” continued Mark.

“The Edgbaston Galleries development is located at a principle gateway to the city, and it is young people like Carla that will be enjoying it in the years to come.”

The party was just one of the ways the class celebrated finishing primary school. A trip to Drayton Manor theme park and a visit from a samba drum workshop also took place in their last week of term.

Carla plans to use her Alton towers tickets during the summer holiday.
